Can you walk and play an instrument at the same time? Do you want to be a part of the biggest event of Boston’s calendar?
Brass and percussion musicians are needed to take part in this year’s Illuminate event at Boston’s Christmas light switch-on.
The big event takes place on the evening of Thursday, November 24, when Boston and South Holland arts organisation Transported and Boston Borough Council present Illuminate 2016, the second inspired and spectacular interpretation of the Pilgrim Fathers’ Mayflower 400 journey to America and what brought the Pilgrims to Scotia Creek, near Fishtoft, one dark night in the autumn of 1607.
Illuminate 2016 will see two lit lantern processions make their way through to Boston Market Place. The parades will end with choirs singing Beyond the Horizon, the Mayflower song composed by local musician and songwriter Jo Freya, set in front of a stunning light projection on Boston Stump. The Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.30pm.
The free event will also include face painting from 3pm, fairground attractions and Santa’s Grotto. There will be a market from noon until 8pm and late-night shopping, in addition to performances by Sarah Lowe and Boston Jive. The evening will be hosted by Lincs FM.
Are you part of a music group who would like to take part? Musicians will need to be able to play whilst walking in the procession and the music will be arranged to fit all standards. Jo will arrange the music depending on the amount of instrumentalists available.
If you would like to get involved please contact Anna Kingman at Anna.Kingman@litc.org.uk. All musicians will need to be available for two one-hour rehearsals and to perform on November 24 from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Illuminate 2016 is the second in a series of annual light festivals that will tell the story of the Boston Pilgrims. The festivals will culminate in a huge international celebration in 2020 to commemorate the sailing of the Mayflower, and the arrival of the Pilgrim Fathers in America. If you are really searching for that elusive “something different” for Christmas, Boston Craft Market will stand on Thursdays all through November and December up to and including December 22.
And don’t forget the regular stall market held in the Market Place every Wednesday and Saturday, and Bargate Green market on Wednesday, come rain or shine. Just the place to be for all types of bargains and fresh fruit and veg.
The Market Place event on November 24 will be followed by more fun in Pescod Square, where their Christmas lights will be switched on at 7pm. Stars will be characters from a popular children’s TV programme.
Weather permitting the snow globe will be back in Pescod Square. It was very popular last year.
